B+PP vs B+PPBishop Endgame
Opposite-Colored Bishop Endgames
Key Concept
Drawing tendency with fortress
How to Play This Endgame
Opposite-colored bishop endgames (one side has a light-squared bishop, the other dark-squared) have the highest draw rate of any endgame type. The defender places pawns on the same color as their own bishop and creates a fortress. Even two extra pawns can be insufficient to win. However, in middlegames with opposite-colored bishops, the attacking side often has the advantage due to the inability to contest key diagonals.
