Veresov Attack (Richter-Veresov Attack)
Main Line
1. d4 d5 2. Nc3 Nf6 3. Bg5
Overview
The anti-...d5 surprise weapon — sister opening to the Trompowsky. White skips 2.c4 entirely, sidestepping the Slav, QGD, Tarrasch, and Chigorin in one move-order choice, then pins the f6-knight with 3.Bg5. Named after Soviet-Belarusian master Gavriil Veresov who popularized it in the 1950s-60s. Modern revival via Tony Miles, Tony Kosten, and Baadur Jobava (whose 2.Nc3 + 3.Bf4 Jobava London is the active-bishop sister system).
