R vs BMajor Piece Endgame
Rook vs Bishop
Key Concept
Drawn with correct defense
How to Play This Endgame
Despite the rook's material advantage, this endgame is generally drawn with correct play. The defender keeps the king in the corner opposite to the bishop's color and maintains the bishop near the king. The rook cannot force checkmate on its own. However, adding even one pawn to either side usually decides the game, making this an important theoretical foundation.
