K+PP vs K+PPawn Endgame
Passed Pawn Endgames
Key Concept
Outside passed pawn
How to Play This Endgame
A passed pawn — one with no opposing pawns blocking or guarding its path — is a powerful endgame weapon. An outside passed pawn (far from the main pawn mass) is especially strong because it decoys the enemy king, allowing your king to capture the remaining pawns. The concept of the 'protected passed pawn' where one pawn defends the other is also critical to master.
